Drones in North Macedonia require CAA registration; flying over the Ohrid Old Bazaar or Kale Fortress without permit means 30,000 denar fine. Photography of police and military installations is illegal. Land crossings from Greece (Evzoni-Bogorodica) and Bulgaria (Deve Bair) can have 3–5 hour queues in July–August. Register drone at caa.mk, avoid military zones, and use the Kosovo border at Blace if coming from north.

Ohrid pearls, handcrafted from fish scales using a secret technique, are North Macedonia's most iconic souvenir, available only in Ohrid. Ajvar (roasted red pepper spread) is a Balkan staple and a delicious edible gift. Tikveš wines are excellent and affordable. Rakija, filigree jewelry from Ohrid, and traditional hand-embroidered textiles are other great picks.
North Macedonia uses a toll-by-distance system at fixed plazas. Payments are accepted in local currency (MKD) and by credit card. While some major plazas accept EUR, change is always given in MKD. Keep local cash on hand for smaller stations.
